Irish born designer Philip Treacy graduated from the Royal College of Art in London with first class honours, he was discovered by the fashion icon – Isabella Blow (then Broughton) whilst she was style editor for Tatler magazine. He was then commissioned to create an item for Broughton’s upcoming wedding. After this, his career soared, collaborating with other designers and design houses such as Chanel, Versace, and Ralph Lauren & Armani. He also designed 36 pieces of headwear for the Royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. His work is truly inspiring and he is a great designer to reference for this project as we have focused the fashion aspect around headwear. I will be including images of his work and believe that his incredible designs and use of materials will be extremely helpful for my own work within this project. Using this research that I have completed on Treacy, I am going to continue designing my own headwear and start experimenting with different materials other than the usual fabrics. I think if I can make something that looks fabulous visually but also strange/unrealistic, it will catch the eye of the public passing by the window display.
