Here are some examples of Alexa Meade’s artwork which I found on her website (http://alexameade.com/). I find her work really inspiring. I’ve learnt that you don’t have to start in 2D format but also that you can be so open to the materials that are available to you – including live people! I’m going to be doing 3D form for my Next VisCom elective – I will definitely have to research her work further for that unit.
I especially like the third image (Portrait, Meet Portrait) as it has an explosive use of colour from the grey-scale like background. It’s almost unbelievable to think that those are real people that she has painted on. Such an innovative way of working. I’ve learnt that simple features can really stand out if executed well. It has made me think that I could try toiling on an actual person instead of a stand as people move and are all different shapes.
